March 1, 2012

It's March?!???!?

It's March 1st and I'm kind of freaking out (in a not so good way.) We left Ghana on December 9th thinking we were just a few weeks away from court.  It is now March and we don't yet have a court date.

When we left for Africa, fall was leaving and winter was moving in. When I returned from Africa, I had an entire winter ahead of me, three whole months of cold air, stinging rain, and maybe *just maybe* some snow. Back then, when people asked about Abi’s arrival day I’d say, “Late winter or early spring.” And now winter’s moving out, spring’s moving in and the warmer days and blooming flowers are physical “in my face” reminders of how much time has passed.

After court (hopefully soon) we'll have a few more months of waiting on visas, passports, etc. It's clear that my hopeful date of Abi's arrival has moved from winter or spring, to spring or summer... ouch. This process is chhhalllenngingg to one's heart.  Very, very challenging. (Dear adoptive mamas, I know many of you have had to wait 5 times as long as I've waited, or longer,... so I apologize for my whiny spirit and I seriously commend you for your patience! Major props to you!!)

In the meantime, I will continue to work away at THIS LIST and try to not totally depress everyone I come in contact with... (including you readers.)

Speaking of you readers, my mama asked me today what had been one of the best "distractions" during this painful time away from Abiella and I said, "my blog."  So THANK YOU for giving me something to look forward to, for giving me a creative outlet, and for allowing me to laugh and cry all in the same week's posts.  Y'all rock!

Love y'all!

Just found this on one of my favorite new blogs, "Boogie with Lu", a "side-dish blog" of the amazing Lulapalooza . Thanks for the laugh Lula.  I swear I know this person.

Rachel, 1993 & Sweet Cars.

After my 7 am date with Megan yesterday morning, I ran out the door and headed to a local diner where I met up with one of my oldest and dearest friends, Rachel. I met Rachel in elementary school and after we made a video together in the 4th grade on the importance of following the rules (complete with spandex shorts and 3 scrunchies in a side pony tail) we were locked in for life. Basically, we have each other’s worse piece of blackmail and must stick with the friendship as a form of self-insurance. If the ally is ever broken you may see me on screen acting horrendously awkward and looking a lot like this:

awkward
... or something close.

Some of life’s funniest moments were spent in Rachel’s rec-room watching the tv on mute in the wee hours of the morning and laughing hysterically at anything that seemed remotely surprising… someone falling, a funny look from one actor to another, someone winning a game show, a dog sneezing… for whatever reason all of these things were exponentially more entertaining at 1 in the morning (without sound) and we’d laugh hysterically while rolling around on the ground, kicking our feet in the air, and wiping tears off our cheeks all while trying to stay quiet enough to not wake her family… which only added to the hilarity. Want something to be a million times funnier? Try not to laugh about it. Hello awkward times in church and court. That’s right Sean McConnell I’m talking about you. Good times… good times.

I digress, Rachel and I still try to get together every few months to enjoy a hot breakfast, a good cup of coffee, and a chance to catch up on life. Rachel has amazing things happening in her life… she’s a fantastic mama, a talented photographer and the proud owner of 2 growing businesses. If you live in TN and need a photographer you can check her business out HERE and if you need a new car go check out her new family business HERE. They have an amazing inventory and will FIND EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT if you have a specific request! Plus, Rachel’s fun and beautiful and will make sure you’re very well taken care of. Tell her I sent you you :)  I mean come on… don’t you want to buy a car from this girl?

… I know you do.

Anyhow, it was a great morning. Keep old friends, people. There’s something about sitting across from someone who remembers you best in bedazzled jean jackets with purple sweat pants and buck teeth that makes life pretty darn sweet. Cheers to good friends, side ponytails and the glorious fact that YouTube didn’t exist when I was growing up.

It's Wednesday y'all! You're half-way there.

So I'm kind of obsessed with my husband...

I don't say it enough on here, but his talents blow me away. Seriously. I was a major Sean McConnell fan before we ever dated and I've only grown more and more impressed as the years continue.

These videos are from last week's concert.  The first song, "Closing Time" was cut my Martina McBride and the second, "Mr. Whoever You Are" was cut by Tim McGraw.  Get it babe! So proud of you!

Big thanks to the person who taped these and put them up on YouTube!!

Had one of the most special mornings of my life.  I'm not allowed to talk about the details now, but it had something to do with the post written over
Photobucket

When I'm allowed to tell you about this morning, I will... I will say a lot, because it's powerful and beautiful and honest and brave and real and special and good.

Megan, I'm honored to be your friend.
I love you.

Weekend.

Hi Friends!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!  Mine was jam packed and a ton of fun.  I didn’t take my camera out a single time (blogger fail) but if I had, I would be sharing with you a photo of the following:

- Drinking coffee and eating a bagel with my family at Panerra

- picking up my gorgeous friend Danielle from the airport! (She came in from TX for a weekend visit!)

- the amazing amount of sushi I devoured Friday night

- Jeni’s icecream (scoops of gooey butter cake and salty caramel. Amen.)

- Sitting in Sean’s studio with friends listening to new tunes

- Lounging by a roaring fire

- Going to the Ride for Reading concert Saturday night!  Ben Danaher, Adam HoodSean and Billy blew it up!

Here are a few photos I stole from Danielle:

- Seeing GREAT friends I hadn’t seen in a LONG time at the show. (Shout out to ERHS.  Love/Miss y'all!!)

- Sleeping in and enjoying coffee by the fire.

I could go on, but I’ll stop.

I'm sad Danielle had to leave yesterday, but so glad she was able to come visit! Danielle: I know you’ve got a fancy life waiting for you in NYC… but Nashville is better and you know it Smile J/k.  But seriously… you know it.

Enjoy your Monday!
