This is for real.

A friend of mine just came home to discover this in her mailbox:

Some men just know how to speak straight to a woman's heart.

Happy Pre-Valentine's Day Everyone!

A Great Night

After posting the "I'm missing Abiella really, really bad" post, I took a shower, got dressed, and went out to the Wade Bowen show at Exit/In.  I haven't had that kind of fun in a while. The place was packed, tons of friends were there, and there was nothing on to do on the agenda excpet listen to great music, get loud, and hang with amazing people.

It was also pretty cool to look around my group of friends and see 3 people who had written some of the songs Wade was performing. I'm so proud of my friends.

During the encore Wade got Sean on stage to sing a song they wrote together called, "Beat me Down."   It was insane.  I swear, watching the 2 of them perform together with the amazing Jessica Murray is almost too much for my heart to take.  It's just too dang good.

To add to the night (or at that point, early morning), we went out to a diner and had greasy amazing wonderful breakfast food.

As I crawled into bed at 2 am I thought, "Dang.  That was fun."  Seriously fun.

Thanks Nashville for an amazing night.  I needed it!

Lists make everything better.

I miss Abiella. A lot. A whole lot. At the very least, this waiting time has been challenging. But many days, “challenging” is the nicest way to put what’s going on in my heart. It’s difficult and hard and sometimes it feels like I’ve just been punched in the gut and I'm left grasping for air.

Point is, I miss her. I wish she was home. I want to know what she’s doing, what’s new, what she’s learning… but as my good friend JMW told me today, “You’ll have so many 'firsts'… regardless of what she’s doing now, they’ll be 'firsts' for you… and then as she grows you’ll be there for the rest.” True words Jessica, True words. Thanks for the wisdom, friend!

As everyone made resolutions for the New Year I struggled. My year is so up in the air, I felt silly making  big goals that may or may not be important to me once Abiella's home. Soo… I did something else. I made a list of things to do before Abiella gets here. Perhaps this will redirect my focus and put a little pep in my step when I feel like I’m floundering.

So without further ado, here’s my list:

1) Complete another Sunrise Series.
2) Make working out a daily habit. For real this time.
3) Print and frame our photos from Africa.
4) Get Abiella’s scrapbook up-to-date
5) Get MaeMae’s etsy shop up and running.
6) Spend a day hiking with Sean.
7) Start playing my guitar again.
8) Purge our things and get rid of the stuff we don’t use or need.
9) Revamp the budget and get on a better “system.”
10) Schedule and go to all annual doctor’s appointments.
11) Learn how to sew, starting with pillows.
12) Plant a garden in the Spring.
13) Deep clean my house using THIS list.
14) Mail at least two pieces of random “snail mail” a week.
15) Find a community adoption group.
16) Find a group for parents with kids with special needs.
17) Write a book… okay, maybe just begin one. :)  Topics anyone?
18) Learn how to make at least one traditional Ghanaian meal.

I’ll keep you posted on what I do! I’m really excited!

The Butcher, the Baker, and the Candle Stick Maker

I have a friend who shall remain nameless (although if you met her she'd probably tell you this story proudly) who lives on my side of town.  A few weeks ago, we had planned on grabbing dinner together, but when my cold escalated to a pretty nasty cough I texted her to reschedule. She promptly responded with, "That's okay. I'm on the way to the butcher right now anyways.  He's cute, so I'm stopping at my house to put on makeup."  Butcher?  I had no idea we had a butcher in our neighborhood... Could "butcher" be code for something?  The rest of our messages went like this:

me: Butcher?? As in the man who cuts your meat?
friend: Yes, he's new in town.
me: Do you have a cobbler too?
friend: No. Should I make one for him? How do you flirt? Is that how?
me: No. I meant like a man who does your shoes. I was joking.
friend: OMG. Good thing we cleared that up, I was already going through my pantry.

At this point, she called me and over switching loads of laundry in my garage I belly laughed at the possibility of my friend taking a warm cobbler to the butcher, all while dressed in fresh makeup, batting her eyes, and using her best southern drawl.

We hung up, she went to the butcher's (sans cobbler), and went on with her life.  But upon further evaluation, I think I may have misled her... what guy wouldn't want a pretty gal bringing them a cobbler at work?  What better way to outwardly say, "Welcome to the neighborhood... Happy New Year's..." while silently saying, "I can cook, and I'm hot, and I'm clearly available if I had the time to make you this cobbler."

Damn.  I should have thought this thing through.  Friend, if you're reading this... go make the man a cobbler... Seriously.
I dare you.

WLW- Where have you been all my life?

Thanks to Mandi over at Vintage Revivals, I am trying out Windows Live Writer.
I can upload and edit my photos, add watermarks, preview my blog AND publish a post… all from one easy screen.
Best part is it’s free!
Unbelievable.
I’m pretty darn pumped.

This is going to make writing blog posts a lot faster.
If you’re a blogger (and haven’t done this already) head over to Mandi’s site and get the play by play on how to setup Windows Live Writer on your computer. It’s well worth it.
Thanks Mandi!!

Sleepover!

This weekend was jam packed with fun get togethers including a sleepover with my 12 year old sister, Carli.

We had so much fun.

We made art...

Carli taught me how to knit!

I spotted this hat that she made and I freaked out.  It's amazing!  Just what I need for my winter walks!  She very sweetly offered it to me before I had to beg :)
(Thanks Carli!)

We played the Wii...

And after Jet's Pizza and 2 bags of popcorn, we finished the night with a midnight helping of mint chocolate chip icecream.

It was the perfect sleepover... followed by morning coffee and 3 episodes of Leave it to Beaver.
Amazing.

Oh... did I mention I got to sleep in a bunk bed?

Life is gooood....

Thanks for the awesome sleepover, Carli!!

xoxo,
