Top Twenty

WINTER / 2012

1)      I got two BIG comfy bath robes this Christmas.
Why we, as a society, don’t wear PJ’s to work is beyond me.
Who needs fashion when you can have pure fleece snuggling against you all day?
Priorities people… priorities.

2)      This hair color... If only I had the guts...

3)      JoJo’s ice cream from Trader Joe’s.
Don’t start eating it unless you’re comfortable with eating an entire half-gallon in one sitting...
at least that's what somebody once told me...

4) This killer performance at the Grammy's.

5)
The new Zach Maberry EP my husband produced. It’s freaking insane.  Check it out HERE.

6) I'm now using a clear plastic shoe rack that hangs on the back of my dining room door to house all my craft supplies. It has revolutionized my crafting time. Out with the bins, in with the hidden and easily accessible craft storage! I highly suggest it!

7)      Bolthouse Farms beverages… any and all of them.  I LOVE them.  Kroger recently had a buy one get one free sale and I freaked out.  When I spotted the sign from across the produce section, I bolted over and proceeded to fill my cart with every single one.  I grabbed them quickly and guarded the territory from other interested customers with an intense ‘hovering over the goods with my back turned suspiciously’ kind of way… As I rolled away with all of the drinks in tow, I looked around.  There weren’t any customers near me.  Basically I looked like a freak… a healthy freak.

8)      This girl’s got marketing figured out.

9) Trips to Goodwill.  I had an entire cart of online shopping ready to purchase when I stumbled into Goodwill.  $15 later I was set.  See ya later retail prices!

10) Sophia Grace and Rosie.  Anything these girls do is amazing.  Here's one of my favorite videos:

11) Don't judge.  I've been watching AFV (America's Funniest Videos) on Instant Netflix.  It's hilarious. No commercials...fast forward through any segments you're not interested in... I've seen more people fall in the last two weeks than I have in a lifetime, and this does the heart good.
   12)   Kashi’s frozen blueberry waffles! They're fairly cheap, healthy, and delicious.
13)   Online scrabble. I feel smart and I can look at Pinterest between plays... (I know that immediately makes me a weaker player, but so be it.) For me it's a win, win.
15)   Dark chocolate candy bars from TraderJoe’s.
16)   Windows Live Writer.  If you’re a blogger, check it out... it's free.
17)   Brewing a second pot of coffee after lunch.  It's. the. best.
18) I have always wanted to wear scarves like this... and for whatever reason I've never pulled the trigger.  That's ridiculous... Tied scarves here I come!

And last but certainly not least,
This incredible tribute at the Grammy's.

November / December

1) Publix’s Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream – All I’m saying is that there are little pieces of crust in it.

2) Danielle, over at Love, Life, and Louboutins, posted this video and I fell in love.  Who knew Sara Bareilles could dance?

3)  Sprinkle pumpkin pie spices or cinnamon (or both) on your coffee grounds before you brew a pot and you end up with a perfect Fall drink and your house smells awesome too! (Thanks Susanna for the idea J)

4) Jennifer Hudson's version of Hallelujah.  I dare you to get through minutes 2:50 to 3:30 without crying. Absolutely incredible.

 5) Frasier- dust off this old gem (We watch it on instant Netflix.)  It is so much funnier than I remembered!

6) Jeni’s Ice Cream.  (If you live anywhere near Nashville, it’s worth the drive!! If not, they have HOME DELIVERY!  Parmesean Zucchini mixed with Mint is my favorite.)

7)  Fleece Sheets!  If you haven’t tried fleece sheets DO. IT. (Unless you get hot easily...I'm never warm enough so they're perfect for me.)  Make sure to wash and dry them with anti-static sheets before you use them or you’ll wake up to flashes of blue lights and a little sting every time you turn over.  I know this from experience.

8) Records.  I cannot stress enough how awesome it is to buy records from the Thrift Store, throw them in the record player while you make dinner, and listen to the crackle of old vinyl blaring through your speakers.

9) On that note, Christmas music.  It’s officially the season for holiday tunes and I couldn’t be more excited. (Also, I am now the proud owner of the 4-volume set of The Lawrence Welk Christmas Special on vinyl... be jealous. Be very jealous.)

10) Early bedtimes.

11) Pajamas with feet.  Why should babies have all the fun?

12) Coffee with an alarm.  Nothing like waking up in a cold house to the cozy aroma and full, steaming mug of hot cinnamon coffee. (see #2).

13) Downloading free fonts.  The possibilities are literally endless.  My most recent download is Typewriter Hand from dafont.com.

14)  Book bags instead of purses.  When I go to a coffee shop, I load up my book bag with books and leave the purse at home.  It’s so much easier and it just makes me feel cool.

15) Mums.

16) Out of the Blue Granola.  It's healthy, delicious, and supports a great cause. Check it out!

17) Need some carefree, no pressure, art in your life?  Watch Christy Tomlinson’s online show and you’ll be looking at all your random crap in a whole different light. It’s awesome.

18) Organic Poptarts. Say what?!? Yes, it’s as amazing as it looks.

19) A huge pot of chili.

20) Fresh flowers.  Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t have fresh flowers inside! I buy the $4 bouquets at Kroger once every two weeks, separate the bouquet into little vases all around the house, and enjoy fresh flowers in every room.  Best bouquet placement: Bathroom sink.

August / September

1) McKay’s.  If you have a McKay’s near you go.  If not, go to your local used bookstore and search for hidden treasures.

2) This video, made for Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign, makes me wish I was a gym teacher. We would do this all day, everyday.

3) American Picker's

4) Spray Paint.  Something about painting things so quickly and evenly is so… satisfying.  I’ve spray painted three things this week and I still have a bottle and a half left. Nothing in my house is safe.

5)Reese’s Klondike Bars… it’s so wrong,
but so right.

6)Need a quick “pick-me-up”? Brooke Fraser’s video for Betty, leaves you snapping your fingers and singing, “hidin’ on your hip honey” for hours.

7) My sister Lindsay encouraged me to read the works of George MacDonald. C.S. Lewis referred to Mr. MacDonald when saying,
“I have never concealed the fact that I regarded him as my master; indeed I fancy I have never written a book in which I did not quote from him.”
If you’re not familiar, you should be.
Start HERE.

8) McDonald’s Strawberry Banana smoothie.

9) Out of the Blue Granola.  It's healthy, delicious, and supports a great cause.

10) Sautee chopped eggplant, garlic, onion, and fresh tomatoes.  Add salt, pepper, and basil and you have a delicious, healthy dinner in 5 minutes.

11) Ancient Aliens.  Remember when you watched The Sixth Sense for the first time and realized that thing you realize at the end?  That feeling happens every 30 seconds on this show, except it's a documentary, so you're even more stunned.  This History Channel series is definitely worth watching.

12)   Need a quick appetizer?  Buy pre-made spinach dip, mix in handfuls of fresh spinach and throw it in the oven until its bubbly. It looks / tastes homemade.

13) I have accidentally allowed my phone to die a few times this month.  I highly suggest it.  It feels good to be completely unplugged.

14) Remember this Cosby episode?  This scene never gets old.

15) Throw a football.  I randomly bought a football the other day at Kmart.  When I brought it home, Sean and I went out back and perfected our spirals.  It was way more fun than I anticipated.

16) Daydream.  I've definitely been daydreaming a lot lately.  Mrs. Thriftary perfectly sums up my thoughts on that topic HERE.

17)  Open your doors and windows.  With the temperatures finally cooling down, it's been great letting the AC rest, and the fresh air in.

18) Buy a real hold-in-your-hand album.  I have not chosen my album yet, as I'm taking this task very seriously.

19) Grab someone and just go driving.  The change of scenery's good for the soul.

20) Deep-fry a toaster strudel.
It's worth every reason not to.

June / July

1) Someone teach me how to make the audio from this clip my alarm each morning: "Happy of Myself"

2) Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

3) Bossypants by Tina Fey

4) Pinterest:  keep all of your ideas together on this virtual pinboard

5)Out of the Blue granola - This will always be on my top 20.  It supports a great cause, tastes amazing, and hits close to home... + inside the bag you can see a picture and read the courageous story of the woman who made your batch

6) Follow Beyonce's "Year of 4" in this 20 minute mini-documentary

7) Chai Tea- make it at home and feel like you're in a cafe!

8) Young at Heart : This documentary follows a choir of elderly folk who travel the country and sing modern-day songs.  I dare you to listen to their rendition of Coldplay's "Fix You."

9) Kohlrabi - this underrated veggie is at the top of our menu this summer

10) Mad Hot Ballroom is a documentary following the mandatory 10 week ballroom class/competition for all 5th grade students in New York City public schools.  I laughed, I cried, and I pretended I was a ballroom dancer (in the privacy of my own home) for a solid two weeks.  I really nailed the foxtrot going to and from the kitchen.

11) Ellie Goulding's album "Lights"

12) King of Queens:  We're heading back to the early 2000's every night and rewatching our favorite episodes of this stellar sitcom.  Arthur Spooner, you have my heart.

13) My husband's b-day gift: Our friend Jon really nailed the gift this year and I can't quit looking at it.  It's an autographed pic of Regis Philbin saying "Happy Birthday Sean... all the best- Regis"  Be jealous. Be very jealous. It may or may not live in an ornate frame on our mantel.

14) Recliner. Thanks to our wonderful friends next door, we are the new owners of a true vintage 70's green leather recliner.  It is amazing.  Now that we have a recliner I don't understand the fuss about couches. In my opinion a good living room should just be a bunch of recliners.

15) Glade's "Angel Whisper" candle.  I love it so much I would bathe in it if I could. (I looked to see if there was a body friendly equivalent and I couldn't find one. If you know of something similar, let me know!)

16) Jellies.  A friend gave me a pair for my bday and I love them so much I sleep in them.  They make me feel like I'm 4 years old again AND they're super comfy.

17) Cucumbers with rice vinegar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.  (Thanks James!)

18) Lemonade.  (I haven't had a glass yet this summer but I'm craving one... so I'm going to go ahead and put it on here.)

19) Mixing dry coffee grounds in vanilla ice cream.  Yes, please!  (Don't over-do-it or you'll be up all night.)

20) The fabric flowers my sister made for her wedding.  My bouquet sits right above my computer and just makes me happy.  Want to make some for your happy place?  Check out her blog post here.
