It is 4 am and my mind is racing. Tuesday we received $1,800 worth of vaccinations, yes $1,800. We knew it would be that much money, we didn't know it would be this much achiness. At the time of the shots I felt fine, but hours later I felt like I had been hit by a truck. 35 hours later my arms are still super sore and I feel basically exhausted. In addition to the yellow fever, typhoid, hepatitis A & B, meningitis, and other shots I can't remember at 4 am, Sean got a chicken pox shot, we both got flu shots, malaria pills, deet/mosquito repellent detergent kit, as well as some preemptive antibiotics. It feels good to have that task behind us... even if it's almost $2k out the door. When I look at what I'm protected against, 2k seems like nothing.
We have sent off our new 1-600A, got our last two papers notarized, mailed off our dossier (fed-ex overnight to a family in the states who will be hand-delivering it to Ghana on Monday) and are beginning to make plans to travel! It has been a whirlwind two days, and now we're in the process of applying for travel visas and securing a travel agent (at the advice of our agency... looks like there are a few travel agents that receive such significant discounts it's worth using one...). Bottom line? We are getting closer. Much closer. And if feels unbelievable!
When I think about holding our sweet Abiella I literally can't contain my excitement... Sometimes Sean and I just pace in our living room... A million thoughts running through our minds. I constantly look at the clock and count forwards to know what time it is in Ghana. Right now for instance, it is 9:29 am. What is she doing? Has she been awake long? What are the sounds and smells and sights around her?
It's an odd feeling to just want to hop on the next flight and not be able to. Yesterday I literally almost hit 'purchase' on a flight that would have us leaving next week only to remember one small detail: travel visas. Oh yeah... of course. Geez.
After Sean fed-exed our dossier, he returned home with a bouquet of flowers and the demand that I use an old gift certificate I have and get a massage on Friday. He called and booked it for me. So sweet.
Tonight, my friend Lindsay and I babysat sweet Preston. It was so fun being with Preston. We're so blessed to have so many great friends right on our street. Speaking of street, we took the house off the market. If we were to sell it now, it could add months and months to the adoption process. Honestly, that's been such a stress-relief... I was sad to leave this house and this street and knowing I get to stay here makes life just a little sweeter.
Tonight Lindsay gave me this print from persimmonandpink.
How sweet!! It reminds me of the meaning of Abiella's name, and I can't WAIT to put it in her room! Speaking of bedroom... I think I'm going to try to go back to sleep now... Looks like I still have a little time before sunrise.
Over and Out,

~Girls Getaway~
This weekend I got some much needed rest and relaxation at my mama's house. My stepdad built this house 7 years ago, and it's basically a dream cabin. It rests on the bluff and is surrounded by wooded acres, a state park, and multiple waterfalls. When I can, I love to bring girlfriends to the cabin to relax, eat home cooked food, and sleep. This weekend our entire book club was miraculously in town and we left the boys at home and hauled it to the mountain.
It was amazing.
When we walked in Friday night, I was greeted by this basket! Inside the basket were loads of craft supplies and all the letters to Abiella's name. My mom had gotten it all for us to decorate over the weekend.
I loved it!
Since every girl can use an old-fashion sleepover, my mom made us all goodie bags... Yes, goodie bags. Let me just tell you, getting a goodie bag as an adult is way more exciting than it was as a kid. It was filled with candy, kleenexes, and fun-colored nail polish.
I mean seriously...
Friday night we ate chili, got in our pajamas (aka the outfit for our entire weekend) and talked by the fire until we all made pallets on different levels of the house and fell asleep to the sound of the fire crackling on the floor below. (The second floor is more like a loft...) Sleeping on pallets with sleeping bags is seriously the best. Apparently someone even woke up and saw me smiling in my sleep... that's how relaxing it was.
This little guy was a nice face to be greeted by in the morning.
Saturday morning, Elizabeth drove up to meet us with Preston and we all enjoyed our second cup of coffee together on the bluff.
We observed rock climbers on the opposite side of the bluff... (The other side's a state park.)
Kristin, aka The Dog Whisperer, made some new friends.
A few hours later, we took a picture with Elizabeth & Preston before they had to leave :(
After they left, we went on a stroll around the property...
After our walk we started decorating the letters my mom had given me. They turned out so well that I'm going to write a separate post about it.
I mean, they're a.m.a.z.i.n.g.
Some took a mid-day nap... (Don't miss the body on the floor.)
And then right before sunset, a few of us went on a mini-hike to see the falls...
We returned to homemade chicken pot-pie, spinach salad with goat cheese, pears, and poppyseed dressing, and spiced baked apples with oatmeal toppings for dessert. What?!??
Sooo good.
Then, we read magazines, listened to music, told stories, and kept feeding the fire.
The next day we enjoyed coffee by the fire, ate huge muffins with fresh fruit and granola, and then packed up and headed home... But not before Zeb got to swing in the hammock with his new favorite.
Thanks Mom for an amazing weekend!!!
We're coming back soon!!

Running at Full Speed
First, to all of you who have offered a congratulations or gesture of support, I can not thank you enough. It means so much more than I could ever express.
***********************************************************************
Since last week we have been running in fast forward. We have gotten our home study updated, reviewed, approved, and sent out again. (Thanks to our amazing agency who moves at the speed of light.) We have gone back to the doctors for our second physical, gotten about a million papers signed and notarized, printed out photos, prepared our updated papers to be sent to the appropriate places, and gathered all the documents needed to send off our dossier. Phew. What a whirlwind week. Hopefully, on Monday we will send the dossier, (unless we decide to hand deliver it to Ghana) and on Tuesday we'll get our vaccinations.
I'm currently taking a break from writing a paper on Educational Leadership (Big thanks to the interviewees who helped me out last second!) to sip on some coffee, take a breather, and write this post.
I am grateful for the work and the busyness. Although it is tedious and time consuming, each signature, each appointment, and each trip to FedEx means we're getting a few more steps closer to Abiella... and the thought of that brings me more joy than I can express. This weekend, I get to take a breather, relax with some great girlfriends, and enjoy the fall weather. I can't wait to SIT. But... it's not time yet. I have 3 hours to go get the last piece of our dossier and to finish this paper... So, I'm going to stop typing and get back to work.
Hope You Have a Great Weekend!
Happy Veteran's Day!

We Have a Match!!
She is a precious baby girl estimated to be 10 months old. She is absolutely beautiful and we are so unbelievably ecstatic.
Isn't she cute?!?!!! I mean I know you can't see the whole picture but just look at those hands. She's so, so, so special and we're absolutely smitten. We can't post a full pic until we've passed court but until then, just imagine the most beautiful eyes you've ever seen and the cutest inquisitive smirk possible.
(You may actually recognize her from one of my earlier posts... I'll get to that)
Here is the story:
Last June our adoption coordinator gave all adoptive families access to 900 photos from her 2 ½ week summer trip to Ghana. As I eagerly scanned through these photos, I noticed a sweet, beautiful, baby girl… I didn’t know anything about her other than she was living in a part of an orphanage for children with special needs. As the months followed, I often thought about her, although I did not know anything about her story.
Months later, in September, I woke up in the middle of the night, very restless. I couldn’t sleep and finally decided to just get out of bed. I wandered into the dark living room, sat on the couch, and turned on my laptop. I very quickly landed on my coordinator’s blog (a blog I read often). I was struck by one of her most recent posts titled “Baby O”. In her post she described a little girl needing a family. This baby was suspected to have some delays, but her delays would remain unknown until an adoptive family brought her home to American doctors. According to her blog, this child was being called “Baby O” as she had no official name and O was the first letter of her orphanage. She posted a picture of the baby’s body (full pics aren’t allowed on the internet) and I immediately recognized it as the body of the sweet girl I had seen in the pictures from her trip months before.
I quickly logged back into her photo account, searched through those 900 photos and found the pictures I had seen this summer of this little girl. She was absolutely adorable and her eyes were stunning.
I immediately began praying for her, her situation, and her name. It bothered me so much that she didn’t have a name. As I prayed and stared at her photos the letter ‘A’ kept coming to me. And then again. And then again… just an odd nagging in my mind.. “A, A, A, A,” Finally, I said, “Okay God, are you telling me something?” and immediately the letters A-B-I-E-L-L-A came to me. Was this a name? If so, I had never heard of it… I quickly typed the letters into my google search and hit enter. It immediately popped up “Abiella- Hebrew name for ‘God is my father.’” I was struck. It was significant.
This sweet orphan was not an orphan… she did have a father…a heavenly Father that cared so much for her. I was blown away. The moment was huge and an indescribable energy surged through me. I ran to wake up Sean. He sat up, he listened, and he looked at the photos.
That night we began praying for “Abiella”. What did this connection mean? We hadn’t planned on special needs, although we had found ourselves talking about special needs a lot in the weeks prior. From then on, we began discussing special needs more seriously, we began speaking with friends who had raised children with special needs, and we began praying about it… a lot. We thought about Abiella… we prayed for Abiella… we gazed at Abiella’s photos.
In the meantime, our coordinator had asked us to spread the word about this child. They were on a search for her forever family. Although I wanted her to be mine, I felt it was selfish to not post her story. I didn’t want her to stay one more night away from a loving family… and we weren’t at a place to make that decision just yet…so I posted about her on my blog, and prayed that I’d made the right choice.
After that, we continued to talk, pray, and listen. Two weeks ago, we got the assurance and peace we had been asking for. We knew without a doubt we were to move forward. Filled with unspeakable peace, true desire and crazy excitement, we sent our coordinator an email asking, “Is Baby O still up for adoption?” It was the weekend, we knew we may not get an answer for days, but sure enough Sunday morning at 1:30 am we got a reply. It began with, “Mary Susan, my heart just about leaped out of my chest! Yes she’s still up for adoption!” After reading more about her story and praying some more we replied, “We’re so in love with this child. Let’s move forward.” And that’s what we did. Two days later, we were filling out final paperwork and preparing to submit our dossier.
She will be named Abiella and be called Baby Abi for short. (Abi rhymes with baby… not Abby). We are head over heels in love, unbelievably excited, and absolutely desperate to get her home. We want to love her, hold her, cuddle her, and give her all the care and attention she deserves. For now, her medical situation is a mystery. As the original post stated, we know her body size is tiny and her head is a bit smaller than typical. As we are eager to get a diagnosis for the sake of helping our sweet baby, there is NO diagnosis that could change our hearts, minds, or love for this precious child.
So, long story short, we are moving towards becoming a family of 3! We hope to be bringing Abiella home in 4-5 months. We are thrilled, over the moon, ecstatic, and scrambling to get all the paperwork in to make this process as quick as possible.
We are absolutely in love and can hardly get anything done. I've already made multiple trips to Target for baby girl clothes, started plotting the layout of her new room, and even begun sleeping with her new stuffed animals (we want them to smell like us when we leave them with her in Ghana during our first visit...)

We would love it if you would join us in praying for sweet Baby Abi. We pray that her health will remain strong during this time of waiting, that we will be able to get her home as quickly as possible, and that she will feel loved and nurtured during this time of transition.
We hope to visit her for the first time this month. I'll be keeping you posted!!!!
The journey begins!!
Feeling very blessed and very excited,

Lorraine...
Need some breathtaking, soul-searching, jaw-dropping music in your life? Try Lori McKenna’s “Lorraine.” The entire album is unbelievable and it is permanately on my all-time list of favorites.
Here’s a clip of Lori in the studio:
Sean had the honor of going on a short tour with Lori earlier this year, and she is as unique and special as she is talented. Miraculously, all of Sean’s siblings (and myself) found ourselves at a show with Sean and Lori in Atlanta, and Lori seamlessly fell into the loud, sometimes inappropriate, hilarious McConnell banter. But, now that I’ve given myself backhanded props for hanging out with this amazing artist, I’ll do it just one more time by saying Sean sings harmonies on track #2, “The Most.”
Alright, I’m done. Enjoy the music!
